PAUSD's peer tutoring program supports younger students by connecting them with older students who have already taken their classes. High school students can earn their required service hours by tutoring other high school, middle school, or elementary school students.

PAUSD's peer tutoring program supports younger students by connecting them with older students (like you) who have already taken their classes. To volunteer as a peer tutor, simply fill out the form below. You'll be contacted as soon as a student books their first lesson with you.

The AAR program is a unique opportunity for students in grades 10-12 to engage in original research in an area of their choosing. Students are paired with mentors who are experts in the field of the student's choosing. It is possible, and encouraged, for students to collaborate with one another on a given project. Mentors support and facilitate the student's work in the mentor's lab, office, or other appropriate environment.

Advanced Authentic Research

The AAR program is an opportunity for students in grades 10 through 12 to investigate a topic of their own choosing through original research. Students are paired with an expert mentor based on their stated interests or field of study. As a mentor, your role is to provide content expertise. You do not need to grade or evaluate student work. The most important part of mentoring is checking in with your students regularly to give feedback and answer their questions. It's very important to express the importance of asking questions and encourage them to explore the subject. If you're interested in volunteering as a mentor, please fill out the form below.

First, new volunteers register using the sign-up form linked to the right. Organization admins then vet those volunteers (to ensure they are who they say they are) before adding them to the search view for students to find. Finally, students and parents use the search view (linked to the right) to find and request those volunteers. Recurring meetings (e.g. on Zoom or Google Meet) are then set up via email.

Help us support the millions of K-12 students who no longer have individualized instruction due to COVID-19. We're making sure that no one loses out on education in these difficult times by connecting students with free, volunteer tutors like you.

To get a volunteer tutor, click the "Search tutors" button (on the right). Then, click the "Subjects" button (in the header) to select the subjects you need help with (e.g. Chemistry or Trigonometry). Finally, click on a search result, fill in the request form, and click the "Send request" button. Once you do, the tutor will receive an email notification and will get back to you to setup recurring Zoom meetings. If you don't hear back from them within a few days, email Ms. Steward at psteward@pausd.org and she'll find you a suitable tutor!

Gunn High School

Gunn High School's Academic Center is an inclusive support center where all Gunn students can receive tutoring, do homework, study, and work collaboratively on projects. In the AC, students requesting support in their academics can receive free tutoring. If you are interested in volunteering as a tutor, please fill out the form below. You'll be contacted when a match with a student requesting a tutor is made.

As former tutors, we have personally seen the massive unfair advantage 1-1 instruction and mastery learning can make in a child’s education. With the pandemic, the education gap has grown larger than ever as those who can afford tutoring are taking advantage of it to get ahead, and those who can’t are left behind, often missing out entirely on learning when they miss key concepts required for moving forward with their learning. It is our mission to close this gap by providing the highest quality free tutoring available to any student who needs it.

Mastery Hour

Teach a child. Change the world. Our mastery learning tutoring program is designed to give students the opportunity to get field experience teaching and provide an ideal field work experience. Simply fill out the form below to volunteer as a Mastery Learning Hour tutor.

Students are invited to simply click on the "Search Tutors" button, filter by subjects and availability, and request a qualified peer or adult volunteer. Most students meet once or twice a week with their tutors. Food is allowed in the room, so lunchtime is popular!

Paly High School

We encourage AP students and others who feel competent to tutor specific subjects by filling out the form below. Once you've been matched with a student who has the same availability, you'll receive an email notification and will start meeting with your student via Zoom.

QuaranTunes aims to create a community of musicians who share their skills and passions with aspiring musicians around the world. While our lessons are targeted at children ages 4-14, we also offer masterclasses taught by world-renowned professionals that are open to anyone. Our teachers are volunteers and all of our classes are free. However, we encourage a donation to our charitable cause in return for our services. We believe in the power of music to connect and bring joy to people around the world, especially in these hard times.
